About Us
The wonderful Friday lunch club has been run by volunteers to provide a regular opportunity for social interaction to many people who would otherwise be isolated and lonely. In its 30-year history, there have been ups and downs, but none so challenging as the 15 months of national lockdowns due to the Covid pandemic restrictions in 2020/2021. The team are delighted that the club has been back up and running since July 2021 at The Larruperz Centre, and continues to offer a family feel and TLC for all our members every Friday 12-2.
Sarah O'Neill, with the help of Rosemary Rigby, took over the running of the group three years ago and have continued to work remotely and from the doorstep throughout 15 months of lockdown to ensure their members were safe, well and feeling loved by the members of this wonderful team! The group leader Sarah visited and telephoned most weeks during lockdown and provided a shopping service, regular quiz packs, TLC gifts and telephone support to all our members throughout. Rosemary, also shielding herself, offered weekly telephone support to our members.
The group operates in a safe covid-secure way as we move forward together. The group meets weekly for a social event, cooked lunch, desert, tea, or coffee (at a nominal cost of £8.50 per member) and a fun time is had by all! We play quizzes, bingo, raffle, sometimes we sing and do a few games too and we are always entertained! We have special party events during the year and trips out too sometimes.
We are currently looking and needing new members for our group so if you are aged 75 and over and would like some company and interaction with a great bunch of people then this could be the group for you!
You do need to book a space on a weekly basis in advance for catering purposes - to book a place, please click on the Contact Us button at the foot of this page.
We have minibus transport for up to 20 of our members so you will need to book a place on the bus (subject to availability) - but if you can make your own way to The Larruperz then even better.
.
We are currently desperately looking for volunteer minibus drivers too and people with their own cars who might be willing and able to bring in individual or a couple of our members on a weekly or biweekly basis. For many it is their only source of interaction and company, and we desperately need more volunteers for transport to ensure we can increase our capacity.
